Temwa Chawinga is a Malawian professional footballer and one of the most prolific forwards in women’s football. Born in Rumphi in northern Malawi, she followed her older sister Tabitha into the game, playing with boys as a child before building a professional career across Malawi, Sweden, China and the United States.
Mae Carol Jemison is an American physician, engineer, astronaut, educator and entrepreneur whose career has moved across medicine, global development, space exploration, technology and education. Born in Decatur, Alabama, and raised on Chicago’s South Side, she entered Stanford University at 16, earned degrees in chemical engineering and African and Afro-American Studies, then earned her medical degree from Cornell University.
Lonnie Constance Kalua-Manduwi was a Malawian maritime professional, educator and school founder. In 1997, she attained captaincy and became Malawi’s first female marine captain, entering a profession in which women were almost entirely absent.
