Mae Carol Jemison is an American physician, engineer, astronaut, educator and entrepreneur whose career has moved across medicine, global development, space exploration, technology and education. Born in Decatur, Alabama, and raised on Chicago’s South Side, she entered Stanford University at 16, earned degrees in chemical engineering and African and Afro-American Studies, then earned her medical degree from Cornell University.
